Player Safety Rules

Read this before playing.

Riddle, Eh? is meant to be fun, friendly, active, and safe. The game is designed so that every riddle and answer can be solved from lawful public access areas.

Before you head out, remember these rules.

1. Be Canadian

Be polite. Be friendly. Be respectful.

Treat other players, coordinators, volunteers, strangers, workers, businesses, and members of the public with kindness and respect.

Compete hard, but be decent about it.

2. Stay Public

All answers are designed to be found from public access areas.

Never enter:

  • Private property
  • Restricted areas
  • Construction zones
  • Fenced-off areas
  • Closed areas
  • Employee-only areas
  • Private businesses
  • Private establishments
  • Unsafe locations
  • Any area where public access is not clearly permitted

If you are unsure whether you should be somewhere, do not enter.

Leave the area and report the concern to Riddle, Eh? coordinators.

3. Touch Nothing

You do not need to move, alter, open, remove, climb on, mark, damage, or disturb anything to solve a clue.

Do not interfere with:

  • Plaques
  • Signs
  • Monuments
  • Buildings
  • Landscaping
  • Fixtures
  • Public property
  • Private property
  • Natural features

Look, read, observe, and solve. Do not disturb.

4. Buy Nothing

Riddle, Eh? is free to play.

You do not need to buy anything, pay anyone, enter a business, make a donation, or provide anything of value to solve a riddle or answer a question.

If something seems to require payment or entry into a business, stop and report it.

5. Stay Alert

Do not read clues, use the app, submit answers, or look at your phone while driving, cycling, crossing roads, walking through traffic areas, or doing anything that requires your full attention.

Park safely and legally before using the app.

Watch for traffic, weather, ice, uneven ground, cyclists, pedestrians, animals, and other hazards.

6. Obey the Rules Around You

Players must obey:

  • Laws
  • Traffic rules
  • Posted signs
  • Site hours
  • Closure notices
  • Weather advisories

  • Instructions from lawful authorities

If a location is closed, unsafe, restricted, blocked, or unclear, do not continue.

7. Minors Should Have Adult Support

Riddle, Eh? is free to play by all ages.

Players under the age of majority should have permission from a parent or legal guardian and should be accompanied or supervised by a responsible adult when visiting real-world locations.

8. Play on Your Own Time and at Your Own Risk

Participation is voluntary.

Players are responsible for their own safety, transportation, decisions, conduct, and surroundings.

You are not required to play, travel, continue, or visit any location if you are uncomfortable or if conditions are unsafe.

9. Report Problems

Report a clue, location, player, or safety issue if something seems wrong.

Examples include:

  • Unsafe locations
  • Restricted access
  • Construction
  • Private property concerns
  • Damaged or missing public information
  • Suspicious behaviour
  • Harassment
  • Cheating
  • Technical problems

Use the official Riddle, Eh? contact method or in-app reporting feature.

10. Quick Safety Checklist

Before solving in the real world, ask yourself:

  • Am I in a public access area?
  • Is it safe to be here?
  • Am I obeying posted signs and site hours?
  • Am I staying off private property?
  • Am I avoiding roads, traffic, and hazards?
  • Am I leaving everything exactly as I found it?
  • Am I being polite and respectful?

If the answer to any of these is no, stop and report the issue.

Short Version

Be Canadian. Stay public. Touch nothing. Buy nothing. Trespass nowhere. Stay alert. Solve safely.
